I was the young girl who became a hunter because of her dad.

I went out to deer camp with my grandpa, dad, and uncles. I started out just sitting with my dad watching him hunt, but I slowly became determined to get my first deer. Every year in the blind I became more and more passionate. I began putting in more time every year, pulling more all day sits, and learning new hunting techniques. Luckily for me I have the best dad in the world and we were able to turn this into something we can always do together. So he’s always along for the ride.

Unfortunately I lost my grandpa a few years ago but he was someone who really shaped me as a hunter and I always carry him with me. My dad and I sit in my grandpas blind (mine now), and I use both his rifle and muzzleloader. They are some of my prized possessions. I am also probably one of the most superstitious hunters and wear my grandpas hunting jacket and gloves, my lucky hat, favorite sweatshirt, jewelry, and the same boots every time I step into the woods.

I came up with the idea for Sighted In this past year when I had to take a year off of hunting because I was pregnant with my son. During this time I realized I could remember the most memorable stories from the woods but those small details were starting to drift away. I wanted to change that which is why I created the concept for the hunting logs.

Overall the name Sighted In comes from the idea which many hunters might say is my downfall but I think is a great story. I always make my dad sight in my guns and crossbow after me just to make sure I still know how to shoot. Why would I have forgotten? I honestly couldn’t tell you, but hunting is a part of me and I am so proud to be a girl hunter who still sits with her dad.
